My friend, during a recent warm and springy day, suggested we make it our summer goal to hit up every Happy Hour in St. Helena. Obviously she knows how to motivate me. Challenge ACCEPTED.
And why not? What’s not to love about Happy Hour? You get to try new restaurants and bars, taste all the apps and drinks on happy offer, and make that time between lunch and dinner just a little bit more festive.
So with that in mind, we’re making our way through town so we can report back with details that will allow you to choose your own adventure.
While we’ve not taken advantage of them all (yet), I did my research and we’ve got our work cut out for us.
The struggle is real, my friend.
Our next outing took us to Cook Tavern & Pizzeria, which is smack dab in the middle of Main St.
While plenty of visitors enjoy Cook Tavern (and it’s sister restaurant next door, Cook St. Helena), the pizzeria is a favorite among locals. Each time I’m there I see a familiar faces, and the staff and owners are friendly and helpful.
The Tavern is the closest thing St. Helena has to a sports bar, and the bar itself fits about 12 people. My suggestion? Order the tater tots and enjoy the Napa Valley version of a childhood favorite, then sit back and watch the game.
Cook Tavern Happy Hour: Monday through Friday, 3 – 6pm
Just across the street from Cook Tavern is Market. With “Wine Bubbles & Bites” as the tag line for this Happy Hour, I intentionally put this stop early on my list. I do love bubbles.
But also, I just love Market in general. They’ve got a tasty menu, a good wine list, and a convenient location. I often recommend it to visitors looking for an unpretentious yet delicious restaurant.
Speaking of menus, this was the first Happy Hour so far where I took the opportunity to order food. Enter, Crispy Calamari with Chipotle Aioli and Tomatillo-Avocado Sauce.
Yum, right? I think so too.
Market Happy Hour: Monday through Thursday, 3 – 6pm
Harvest Table is located on the southern end of town, at the Harvest Inn.
The vibe is very calm, and in addition to beer, wine and well drinks, they also offer some of their signature cocktails at Happy Hour prices.
While I’m sure there are food options on the Happy Hour menu, I never managed to make it beyond the little bowl of crunchy, crack-like nibbles that were placed in front of me upon arrival. I suppose that means I should make another trip to Harvest Table to get a better grip on the food situation. Oh, ok.
Bonus time: Every Monday and Friday afternoon, a local winery is invited to pour tastings on the front porch, which I translate to mean Happy Hour times two. Doubly happy.
Harvest Table Happy Hour: Tuesday through Sunday, 4 – 6pm
